Abstract

Motivational design serves as a bridge between concepts, theories, and principles arising from studying human motivation, and the best practices resulting from the work of designers aimed at improving learner motivation. In
designing motivational and engagement strategies, the starting points are the level of technology integration, supportive learning community, clear and achievable goals, social interactions, constructive feedback, and supportive
leadership. A good intentional design will effectively consider and involve all relevant aspects and strategies that can strongly impact students’ motivation.
One such model is ARCS (an acronym of its four components: Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction). Created by John Keller many years ago, and reaffirmed during the Covid-19 pandemic, this model is equally applicable in traditional and online learning environments.
