Abstract
This doctoral dissertation explores the impact of constructive characteristics on diaphragm spring stresses. The diaphragm springs are an integral part of the motor vehicles friction clutches. Friction clutch is the mechanism placed between the engine and the gearbox in cars and is used to transfer torque from the engine of the vehicles to the transmission. The research in this dissertation aims to come to conclusions that will allow increased durability of diaphragm springs. The examinations of the stresses and the model verification were carried out using : the Almen-Lazslo formulas, experimental measurements and software based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). Afterwards, the variation of the stresses is examined depending on the number and location of the diaphragm spring support points. Examination was performed to determine the stress exerted by the geometrical hole shapes near diaphragm spring finger beginning. The distribution of the stresses around the diaphragm spring finger beginnings has been analyzed depending on the hole shapes near the finger beginnings : elliptic, circular or rectangular. For each hole shape, the distribution curves of the stresses was obtained. Diaphragm springs with elliptic and circular hole shape show similar results. When holes are rectangular, the maximum stress is in a narrower zone around the angles of the rectangle, compared to the diaphragm springs with elliptic and circular holes. The last section explores changes in the stresses of diaphragm springs, depending on spring thickness, the angle of the spring, and the number of spring fingers. As the spring thickness increases, the stress varies depending on the diameter of the observed part of the spring and the value of the spring deflection. The equation of the delimitation curve in areas of decreasing and increasing stresses in the plate part of the diaphragm springs for different values of spring deflection is determined. When changing the angle of the spring, the diagrams of the stress change and the relative stress change, for different diameters of the spring, are determined and their analysis is performed. The stress state of three different values of the number of spring fingers was analyzed and the difference between the stresses was very small, almost negligible, and there was no significant difference in the shape of the stress curves for the individual diameters of the spring plate. A number of other conclusions have also been made regarding the improvement of the performance of dense springs in terms of improving their durability at higher loads and applying them to vehicles with aggressive, rapid torque changes delivered by frictional clutches.
