Abstract
The low content of soil organic matter in the most conventionally cultivated soils in the world is a key factor and a reason for their low fertility. In this paper are presented the actualities for cultivation practices and the negative effects of their long-term application in conventional agriculture as a result of high degree of agricultural industrialization.
The current state of soil organic matter content is 0-2% organic matter in agricultural soils in Republic of Macedonia and it is an indicator for low application of organic matter during cultivation. In the paper are presented the advantages and disadvantages of green manure as relatively cheap agrotechnical measurement, as well as categorization of different plant species as green manure. Additionally, valuable information for significant green manure species and their agrotechnical characteristics, in addition to the criteria for their selection according to specific and diverse agroecological conditions are specified.
Finally, recommendations for cultivation of proper plant species for green manure in different agricultural regions with various and specific agroecological conditions are given.
