Abstract

Tomislav Sopov was born in 1939 in Strumica, Macedonia. In 1965. he finished his studies at the Conducting Department of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, in the class of prof. Danilo Svara. During his studies he conducted the Academy Orchestra of Ljubljana and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. During 1975. – 1976. he did his specialization at the Academy Santa Cecilia in Rome in the class of prof. Franco Ferrara. During his specialization in Rome he conducted the Santa Cecilia Symphonic Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra of Santa Barbara, California, USA. Since 1969. he’s been forking as a conductor at the Opera and Ballet House of the Macedonian National Theatre where he set conducted: La Traviata, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Nabucco, Don Carlos, Aida, Norma, Lucia si Lammermoor, Il Barbiere di Seviglia, Carmen, Faust and others, as well as the ballets Don Quichotte, Mirandolina, Giselle, Le Corsair and the ballets of Macedonian composers. In the period 1985. – 1987. he was the Chief Conductor of the State Opera House in Ankara, Turkey, where he set and conducted: Figaro’s Wedding, Magic Flute, Rita, Cavalleria Rusticana, Un Ballo in Maschera and others. In the period 1987. – 1989. was the Chief Conductor of the opera Smyrna, Turkey where he set and conducted: Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, L’Elisir d’Amore, La Boheme and Tosca. In the period 1991. – 1993. he was the Chief Conductor of the Opera in Instanbul, Turkey, where he conducted Mozart’s Requiem, and the ballets of Don Quichotte and Giselle. Apart from opera and ballet, Sopov has also been renowed as a conductor of symphonies. He has conducted the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra and the orchestras of Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Trieste, Rome, Istanbul, Smyrna and Franfurt. He has given a great contribution of the promotion of the Macedonian music works, by setting and conducting a great number of Macedonian opera, ballet, vocal and instrumental compositions.
