Abstract
Androgenesis, a process that takes place in in vitro conditions, is the news and the most secured method for development of haploid plants, where the vegetative or generative nucleus of pollen grain are stimulated to be developed into haploid plant, without further fertilization.
Beside the fact that androgenesis is possible in many crops and trees, the ability of each spices for successful propagation of microspores is limited to one genotype or variety. The reason for such restriction is still unknown and unfortunately androgenetically successful genotypes are without commercial importance.
Haploid plants are ideal material for plant genetics and breeding research. On the other hand, the frequency of spontaneous production of haploids of crops is very low. Therefore, one of the most important methods of in vitro cultivation of plants is production of number of haploids and dihaploids for short time. Those haploids/dihaploids are a base for further cytogenetics research studies which will justify the procedure.
