Abstract

Given that the economy of the Republic of Kosovo in the past was based on
mining industry and that also now the basis of Kosovo‟s economy is the development
of mining sector, in particular lead-zinc sector, I considered this fact as an important
topic for PHD thesis - The Pb-Zn Enterprise Trepca. In thessis focused on the
problem of restructuring of Trepca given that this enterprise is still at the phase of
searching of ideas and alternatives toward free market economy. It‟s confident that
this PhD thesis will serve the enterprise and the mining industry in the country and
the region.
In the thesis I have treated in separate chapters the economic past of Trepça,
the current situation, and the future of this sector in an analytical manner. In the
thesis have analyzed and evaluated the current reserves, geology of the mining
zones, the technology that is currently being used, legal basis, and environment
problems from the past and present.
The uniqueness of this PhD thesis is the analysis and the contemporary
methodology for structuring of Lead-Zing Enterprise Trepca in the conditions of
market economy always based on scientific, technical-technological parameters of
European standards. Special attention was paid to the economic-financial aspect,
which is necessary for the restructuring phase, the level of investments, dynamics of
investment duration, investment sources, and the deadline for return of financial
means. All this was carried out through a scientific analysis through a special
computer program, by treating all influential parameters to see the feasibility of each
mine separately. The results of this program as well as the economic-financial
analysis are included in the annex of the thesis. In a special way are presented
recommendations of the type of restructuring, methodology, legal steps,
environmental and financial aspect, in order for the enterprise to be more compatible
with contemporary standards of free trade market and competitive market in the
European market.
