Abstract

Environmental analysis plays a crucial role in identifying, monitoring, and quantifying chemical contaminants in complex environmental samples. This lecture provides an overview of modern instrumental techniques used for the analysis of water, soil, and other environmental matrices, with particular emphasis on UV–Vis spectroscopy, atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy, chromatography, electrochemical methods, and advanced surface characterization techniques. Attention is given to the fundamental principles of these methods, sample preparation, analytical sensitivity and selectivity, and the criteria governing the selection of an appropriate technique for a specific analytical problem. Particular emphasis is placed on electrochemical approaches and emerging sensor technologies for rapid, sensitive, and cost-effective detection of heavy metals and organic pollutants. The lecture aims to connect fundamental analytical principles with practical environmental applications and to demonstrate how complementary instrumental techniques can provide reliable information for environmental monitoring, pollution assessment, and sustainable environmental management.
