Abstract

Dyslexia is a learning disability that manifests itself with difficulties in accurate and fluent word recognition, poor spelling performance, and impaired decoding skills. Despite various technological advances, most existing learning materials-printed books, educational literature, and academic materials, still lack dyslexia compatible features. This paper presents a mobile application for the Android operating system that enables on-demand conversion of printed materials into dyslexia-friendly digital formats. The application allows users to capture images of printed text, automatically extract textual content using Optical Character Recognition, and render the text with customizable visual parameters, including font type, font size, letter spacing, and background color. The application works offline using integrated phone’s camera to scan and process text, instantly applying dyslexia-friendly modifications such as specialized fonts, optimized spacing, and enhanced visual presentation. The application was preliminary evaluated and the results are reported.
