Abstract
This exercise presents the practical implementation of an Arduino-based short-range radar system combined with a real-time graphical visualization developed in the Processing environment. The system integrates an Arduino Mega 2560, an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor, and a servo motor to perform angular scanning and distance measurement of nearby objects. The measured angle and distance values are transmitted via serial communication to a Processing application, where a radar-style interface dynamically displays the scanning beam and detected targets.
The Processing code, originally developed as a base version, has been updated and optimized by Rexhep Mustafovski to improve serial data parsing, visualization stability, geometric scaling, and compatibility with different screen resolutions through adaptive full-screen rendering. The updated implementation enhances accuracy in converting real-world distance values into graphical coordinates and ensures robust real-time visualization performance.
This laboratory exercise demonstrates key concepts in embedded systems design, sensor integration, serial communication protocols, real-time data processing, and graphical interface development. It is suitable for undergraduate-level education in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, and computer engineering, providing students with practical experience in interdisciplinary system development.
