Abstract

The inclusion of gender aspects in the planning and organization of local policies is essential for ensuring human rights and social justice for women and men.

At the local and national levels, it is necessary to create preconditions for the implementation of the right to equality in all areas, as well as to undertake an obligation to eliminate all forms of discrimination.

The right to equality between women and men requires local communities to undertake appropriate strategies to promote equal representation and participation of men and women in the decision-making process. To this end, and per the legal regulations, local communities, including the Municipality of Gevgelija, develop action plans and programs for gender equality.

The book “Gender Balance and Inclusive Governance: The Macedonian Municipal Case of Gevgelija” is intended primarily to provide an overview of the real situation regarding the representation of women and men in institutions established by the Municipality of Gevgelija, and the main goal is to help decision-makers in the creation of policies and programs at the local level to make gender-balanced decisions.

This book is expected to help raise the level of gender sensitivity in the institutions established by the Municipality of Gevgelija, but also generally on the territory of the municipality.
