Abstract

Experiential learning is a hands-on, active learning process that focuses on learning through direct experience. It allows learners to actively engage in a learning activity, reflect on the experience, and apply their newfound knowledge and skills in real-world situations. This method emphasizes the connection between theory and practice.

The Experiential Learning Cycle, as proposed by educational theorist David Kolb, is typically divided into four stages:

Concrete Experience: The learner actively participates in a new experience or activity. This could be anything from conducting an experiment, working on a project, or going on an immersive field trip.

Reflective Observation: After the experience, the learner reflects on what happened. They think about the actions they took, the outcomes, and how the experience went compared to what they expected.

Abstract Conceptualization: In this stage, learners analyze the experience, draw conclusions, and formulate general principles or theories based on what they observed. They try to make sense of the experience and relate it to existing knowledge or theoretical concepts.

Active Experimentation: Finally, the learner applies the newly acquired concepts or knowledge to new situations, testing and experimenting with different strategies and solutions in future activities.

These stages cycle continuously, and through repeated engagement, learners build deeper understanding and skills.
