Abstract

Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have established a solid foundation for collaboration between the private and public sectors (government and municipalities). It seems to have become a popular model for a sustainable and efficient society in terms developing and implementing capital infrastructure and investments in the public sector and delivering public services in the areas of ecology, transport, education, and health. The PPPs have been operating in our domestic law and practice for more than
a decade, but it seems that there is a lack of adopted regulations, bylaws, formal procedures, and unified standards on how to use this kind of model for near cooperation among the public and private sectors and how to improve the healthcare system and strengthen the delivery of health care services. Therefore, this research will analyze the existing legislation on public-private partnerships and concessions, explore the current status of these models of sui generis agreements and examine their use in the public health sector as a nexus between the private sector and the Macedonian public healthcare system. The author provides an overview of the pros and cons of public-private partnerships in the Macedonian health care system.
