Abstract
When there's a series of electron transfers resulting in the formation of stable, water-soluble redox states of specific species, it's described as an EE mechanism, symbolized as A+1e- = B+1e- = C, in the context of an electrochemical terminology. If there's an irreversible (regenerative) reaction linked with the first electron change that turns species B back to the starting redox species A, this intricate mechanism is termed as EC'E in electrochemical jargon. A comprehensive MATHCAD File detailing the diffusion-based two-step EC'E mechanism is provided, showcasing voltammetric patterns corresponding to different regeneration chemical rates. The modeled patterns in this study offer clues to identify this mechanism in square-wave voltammetry and lay down the groundwork for experimental approaches to discern the kinetic factors tied to this sophisticated mechanism. Many water-soluble redox enzymes and redox proteins comply to this electrochemical mechanism under physiological conditions.
