Abstract

Introduction: Adequate implant monitoring and maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity of dental implants
and their superstructures through a combination of professional oral-health care and effective home oral hygiene. The main goal of this study was to evaluate
various clinical parameters during the implant maintenance phase. Material and method: Total number of thirty patients were examined. The research includes subjects who visited thisoffice for maintain phase in the period at least one year from the implant placement. All respondents were divided into two groups: (1) patients who regularly attend
the maintenance phase every three to four months and (2) patients who do not went for maintenance phase and who visited the office for some other reason. Dental plaque index, peri-implant probing depth and bleeding on probing were determined on each subject. Results: The mean values for plaque index for group 1 was 0.24± 0.18, and for
group 2 was 0.28 ± 0.16. The mean values for the bleeding on probing index for group 1 was 0.55 ± 0.12 and 0.84 ± 0.39 for group 2.The mean values for the depth of the peri-implant sulcus for group 1 was 2.84 ± 0.56,and for group 2 was 4.22±0.38. Values for all clinical parametars were
higher for the second group, but only values for the periodontal probing depth were significant. Conclusion: The phase of periodontal maintenance after dental implants placement is extremely important and should not be ignored by the dentists.
Keywords: maintenance phase, dental implants, periodontal maintenance, complications with dental implants.
