The project titled as Ultralow concentrations of arsenic and thallium in the soils in Republic of Macedonia is a continuation of the researches which in Republic of Macedonia and in Croatia have started within the frames of the bilateral scientific cooperation. This project is a result of the researches which in the today’s world are conducted in the field of detection of ultralow concentrations of arsenic and thallium in definite geo-chemical environments (soils, water, vegetation forms, as well as their influence on the health of the people). The soils as a geochemical medium are significant resource for the countries like Republic of Macedonia where there is a dominant vegetable production. Therefore, this resource must be carefully researched and observed from an aspect of its protection, but here the assignment of the particularly low concentrated toxic elements with a strong geochemical cohesion trough the processes of migration is also included ( soil-vegetation forms-people’s health). The arsenic and the thallium belong to the group of particularly toxic elements with a low concentration in the soils and the vegetation forms, or, in the frames of the ultralow concentrations (a few ppb to a few ppm). We need to mention that fertilizers and guards are highly used in the regions of Republic Macedonia where there are dominant agriculture activities (Strumica, Gevgelija, Kavadarci, Kocani, Bitola, Tetovo, and other smaller regions). Through these processes of the soils and the vegetation forms a significant concentration of the elements in traces, particularly elements concentrated within the frames of the ultralow concentrations is produced. All these relatively low concentrations of the elements like (arsenical and thallium) have a high influence upon the health of the people. The health of the people who are subjects of arsenic and thallium influences for decades is a research topic in various research centers in the world, particularly in the regions with significant concentrations of these elements in defined geochemical environments (soils and water).
The arsenic and thallium as elements of the group of toxic elements are differently presented in some defined geochemical environments / rocks in the lithosphere, as shown in Tables 1 and 2:
From the given data in the tables 1 and 2 it may be concluded that these elements are only slightly prevalent in defined geochemical environments. In the text below, we will present in detail the mobilization of the arsenic and thallium in the habitat.
