Abstract

A report of attending 2019 EUA- CDE thematic workshop

In the role of Adviser for Scientific Cooperation at Goce Delcev University, Stip, from 16 till 19 January, I took participation at 2019 EUA-CDE thematic workshop in Amsterdam, Netherlands. My participation come up along with successful application for membership of Goce Delcev University, Stip in European Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE).
The 2019 EUA-CDE Thematic Workshop was focused on inter-institutional collaboration in doctoral education. Participants reflected on how universities with different goals and levels of development can benefit from different forms of collaboration.This includes between universities, as well as other institutions doing research at the local, national and international level. The workshop also addressed related challenges and provided an occasion to identify new collaboration opportunities between EUA-CDE members.
After welcome address and presentation of the programme, Plenary Session I started with the topic: Added value of inter-institutional collaboration in doctoral education. This plenary discussion was focused on the question of how critical mass and diversity in research environments and other preconditions for successful doctoral education can be developed through inter-institutional collaboration.
Plenary Session II followed with the topic: Joint doctoral supervision: Does it meet the expectations? This plenary session explored to what extent joint doctoral supervision is a successful way of establishing inter-institutional collaboration and how it can be best organized.
After Plenary session I and II, parallel working groups took place. Each parallel working group reflected on an aspect of inter-institutional collaboration, identifying good practices, policies and structures that have had a positive impact. They also addressed potential challenges and obstacles. The working groups were on these following topics: Starting inter-institutional collaboration; Collaboration with non-university partners; Opportunities and challenges for inter-institutional collaboration: research integrity; International collaboration.
During Plenary Session III participants presented examples of collaboration in doctoral education or concrete proposals for future collaboration during a five-minute talk.
After this Parallel Working Groups II took place with fallowed topics: Starting inter-institutional collaboration; Collaboration with non-university partners; Opportunities and challenges for inter-institutional collaboration: governance and capacity-building and International collaboration.
After Plenary Session IV with the topic: The role of doctoral education in European university networks and Plenary Session V, thematic workshop was finished with Report and discussion on the key findings of the working groups and with concluding remarks.
