Abstract

This paper outlines the results from an experimental research whose primary goal was to determine whether the implicit grammar instruction in the Italian language contributes to improvement of the ability to produce and understand the targeted grammar structure in comparison with explicit explanation of the grammar rules. The introduction briefly delves into explaining the difference between implicit and explicit instruction, i.e. it defines the terms reactive, proactive, direct, indirect, deductive, and inductive grammar instruction. The paper further describes the research procedure, gives a presentation of the methods, techniques and research instruments as well as the aims and goals of the research, the major issues in the research and its hypothesis. The paper further gives a detailed description of the conducted research and discusses the obtained results.
