Abstract

The mechanism of the occurrence and therapy of progressive myopia is still a permanent and an insoluble problem in ophthalmology. The severity of progression in children myopia, the visual prognosis and the pathologic changes of the fundus; thus, the problem of prophylaxis is constantly of current interest in the routine ophthalmologic practice.
According to the numerous opinions from the recent literature we can assume that besides the endogenous factors, and the genetic predisposition, there are also some external factors that can influence the development and the occurrence of myopia in children.
The authors evaluated 100 children with myopia, aged from 10 to 16 years. They analyzed their anamnestic data, the onset of myopia and its natural course as well as some external factors that could hypothetically influence the progression and the condition of myopia in every examined child.
On the basis of their investigation and obtained data the authors came to conclusion that in the period of growth of the genetically determined children the above mentioned external factors could lead to the development of progressive myopia and in the cases of genetically undetermined children to the occurrence of “school” or false” myopia.
