Abstract
Surface redox reactions are big class of redox reactions mimicking the redox chemistry of relevant enzyme in many aspects. If we apply potential to a working electrode on which molecules of an enzyme or other lipophilic compound are firmly adsorbed (forming a monolayer), then quite specific features are observed of resulting voltammograms, if also the product of electrode reaction remains firmly adsorbed on electrode surface. We present in this work the voltammetric features of several important surface redox mechanisms. This work gives the readers hints to recognize a particular redox mechanism, and the apply given procedure for getting insight into thermodynamics and/or kinetics of given electron transfer steps, or chemical reactions. We present plenty of simulated voltammograms that will guide the readers to better understanding many complex phenomena of surface redox reactions, which are suitable models for protein-film voltammetry.
