Abstract

Introduction: Oral mucosal lesions under dentures are associated with the dental plaque that is glued to the dentures, candida infection, decreased secretion of saliva, reduced oral hygiene, and mechanical trauma to the dentures.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions under prosthetic constructs in the region of Shtip.
Material and Methods: For the purpose of this study 40 patients who wearing dentures were examined. The data for the study were obtained with a clinical examination of the patients and medical history. A survey questionnaire was also made with data related to gender, girth, type of prosthesis, prosthesis hygiene and time of use of the prosthesis. The test was conducted for a period of four months.
Results: Oral mucosal lesions were found in 70% of patients. The most frequent lesions were the angular cheilitis and the decubitus ulcer that occurs in more patients who have lesions, especially in patients who first wear dentures. Most of the lesions are occuring in patients who wear complete dentures than in patients who wear partial dentures.
Conclusion: The diagnosis of oral mucosal lesions is quite difficult and can indicate systemic diseases. In order to prevent and reduce the extent of oral mucosal lesions, patients are using protein aids should respond to daily oral hygiene, go to regular dentist control and listen to the dental advise.
