Abstract

Although being naturally more suitable and more inclined to art, why have women created so much less
works of art compared to men? The emergence of women in the Turkish art is not much different from that in other
countries. For centuries, women have not been able to express their intrinsic feelings in poetry which had a rooted past and was being created faithful to tradition. The name of the first poetess in the Turkish literature emerged in the era of the Anatolian Seljuks. The name of this poetess, who has a letter and a poem consisting of seven two-line verses preserved to this day, is Erguvan Hatun. The first poetess in the Turkish Divan Literature is Zeynep Hatun.
