Abstract
The use of the information and communication technology (ICT) is not an aim in itself in
the learning process. E-learning has become a prerequisite for achieving the vision that favors
the integration of ICT in education. (European Commission – Directorate – General for Education
and Culture (2003), E-Learning, Better E-Learning for Europe).
In order to investigate the situation in order of application of ICT in teaching in secondary
schools in Macedonia, we conducted a research in the last quarter of 2013. The research was
conducted in four secondary schools (gymnasium education) (the schools were with approximately
the same level of development in terms of material and technical equipment and situatedness
with IC technology) located in the East of the Republic of Macedonia.
The research involved 109 teachers who teach subjects of social-humanist area. Their
views and opinions were studied using a specially developed survey questionnaire structured in
three parts: teachers’ willingness for the application of ICT in teaching, Usage of ICT in teaching,
quality of ICT equipment in their schools and the problems they face.
As for the teachers’ readiness for using ICT in teaching, we noticed that teachers rated
their own knowledge of computer skills with a high proportion, and more than half of them attended
training courses for using ICT in teaching. The second part reports teachers, more often
apply ICT hardware and ICT software in their daily teaching. The second part we notice that
teachers occasionally use ICT hardware and software in teaching. ICT in teaching usually was
used for research with students
The third part of the study examined teachers’ opinions and views about the application
of ICT in teaching and it has been noticed that most of the surveyed teachers generally evaluate
well (68%) the quality of ICT in their classroom. A large percentage of teachers think that the use
of ICT in teaching can increase and has already increased their own creativity, and the creativity
of their students.
