Abstract

The higher education in the Republic of Macedonia has been undergoing reforms for quite a long time. In the era of opening joint European higher education space, when the higher education institutions are expected to strengthen themselves in order to become more competitive on the global market of higher education, one of the main carriers of this process are the university teachers, on whose knowledge and abilities the creation of future professional cadres is directly dependent.
In order to determine the level of competency of the university teachers in the Republic of Macedonia from their own point of view, a research shall be conducted by questionnaires given to certain number of university teachers from the most of the universities in the country. The questionnaires shall be filled in by teachers of different profiles, of different work experience and at different age.
The results of the research shall be processed and analyzed and they are expected to provide real picture of university teachers’ point of view regarding their own competency for carrying out higher education activity. Finally, we shall provide our own opinion regarding the results from the research as well as suggestions contributing towards the need for improving higher education teachers’ competency.
