Abstract
Backround: The management of Parkinson’s disease (PD) has traditionally centred on drug treatment but even with optimal medical management, patients still experience a deterioration of body function, daily activities, participation and decline in mobility.
Aim: To investigate the effect of kinesitherapy on general physical activity in patients with PD. Material and Methods: Four patients with Parkinson's disease (Schwab&England 60%) were studied. We assessed the patient's changes in motor activity before treatment, after 10th session and after the 20th session of kinesitherapy. Activities of daily living and motor disability of Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale, the time of position change (lying to sitting, sitting to standing); 10 meters walking have been studied.
Results: Patients performed 20 individual sessions of kinesitherapy, 2-3 times weekly for two months. It was found improved gait, which is expressed by the increased speed of walking. The methodology of kinesitherapy improved the changes of body positions and the daily motor activity of the patients. They improved their general physical activity after treatment.
Conclusion: Motor dysfunction in patients with PD is a serious problem and requires special attention, concerning the performance of daily activities. Kinesitherapy is an important therapeutic method and the correct selection of exercises could improve the efficacy of influence on the motor abilities of patients.
