Abstract

This paper presents the main processing techniques used with organic matrices fibrous materials reinforced composites, for different kind of applications. After a brief introduction, followed by the characterization of the main matrices, thermosets and thermoplastics and reinforced material used in these composites, the different environmentally friendly techniques applied in various engineering applications are presented and discussed: impregnation, compression molding – open and close mold, filament winding, injection molding. The growing global environmental concern, new and stronger environmental policies have forced some industries to look for new materials that will be able to substitute traditional composites reinforced with glass or carbon fibres. The interest in natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites is growing rapidly due to their high performance in terms of mechanical properties, significant processing advantages, excellent chemical resistance, low cost and low density.
