Abstract
Introduction: Hyperkeratosis of the oral mucosa is a condition characterized by excessive thickening of the keratin layer of the mucous membrane, most often as a result of chronic irritation or injury. Although not typically considered serious, this condition can be caused by various factors such as smoking, alcoholism, or poor oral hygiene. Aim: Aim of this article is to present a clinical case of hyperkeratosis of the oral mucosa in a 23-year old female patient. Hyperkeratosis can be a precursor to malignant diseases. A histopathological biopsy of the oral mucosa is necessary for a definitive diagnosis. Material and methods: A sample of the oral mucosal lesion was sent for histopathological analysis to the Institute of Pathology. Results: The biopsy section showed hyperkeratotic stratified squamous epithelium with acanthotic thickening, indicating hyperkeratosis. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and appropriate
treatment of this condition are important to prevent serious complications.
