Abstract

During the events of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-22, older people have suffered doubly: apart from being the main
victims of the disease, they have been victims of isolation, abandonment, and lack of care and healthcare. In the same way,
those working with older people, such as social workers, educators, and staff of nursing homes or civil organisations, have
been overloaded with responsibilities, revealing themselves, at times, incapable of managing their own stress and that of the
users.
As stated by Berg-Weger M., Morley J.E. (2020), the Covid-19 pandemic also highlighted the weakness of the traditional
strategies both for improving the psychophysical well-being of caregivers and for engaging older adults and help them to
face the symptoms of the post-traumatic stress disorder, as depression, anxiety, insomnia and feeling of loneliness. It has
become evident the need for new tools that enhance the human being in his integrity and help him develop resilience and
improve health and quality of life. A holistic approach that Mindfulness-oriented techniques are based on has been proven to
be the best ally to improve the psycho-physical health status of both professionals and older adults. Unfortunately, around
Europe, this discipline still struggles to enter state-regulated education and there is also a lack in the offer of upskilling
possibilities of this type for professionals who work with older adults.
For all these reasons our motivation has become strong, and we firmly believe that a project like this should be funded, not
only to improve the psychophysical well-being of people but also to give space to a new discipline that is so valuable and
can be sustained in time.
