Abstract

One of the most important media that contribute to the positive development of the individual, that enable the acquisition of basic social values, that enable social cohesion, overcoming stereotypes is sport. It is the driving force that leads to the achievement of the millennium goals for the development of human society. Connected and intertwined with education leads to the creation of a fully holistic person as the highest ideal that we strive for in modern society. Sport is a preoccupation of a growing number of young people around the world. Many of them achieve top results in it.
But does doing sports alone offer opportunities, a perspective for a future life career? Many athletes face a challenge related to the combination of a sports career with education or employment, or, difficulties in completing their sports career - what next, where, how? What policies are needed to help young people face such challenges and overcome them successfully? How can young people, athletes have the same opportunities as other peers in terms of proper education, a great lifetime career after finishing a sports career as elite athletes ? In fact, it is a matter of actualizing the issue of athletes' dual careers.
In this paper we have tried to elaborate the concept of "dual career" of athletes, the role of stakeholders, various models for the implementation of this concept, as well as to highlight a number of good practices in the application of the concept. The aim of the paper is to actually raise the issue of dual careers of athletes, to sensitize stakeholders in order to find various forms and ways for successful implementation of this concept at local, national and global levels.
