Abstract
Alexander’s conquest of the East represented and still represents one of the most important, omnipresent and romanticized historiographic narratives. Yet, the complex global transformations that followed this conquest and created Alexander’s oikumene were less popularized in modern historiography. One of the reasons behind such developments in ancient and modern historiography is the specific ambivalent view of the “Western” elites on the world of Alexander’s descendants that united and represented an amalgamation and globalized version of the cultures of the Old World of the three continents.
This specific chronological overview of the Macedonian imperialism aims to provide a new approach and different focus to the ancient globalized world, that diverges dramatically from the traditional Eurocentric and classicistic asymmetric views developed during the 19th and early 20th century. It exposes the complex civilizational infrastructure laid down in this period, that outlived many empires and remained important center of influence to both East and West for almost two millennia.
