Abstract

The traditional architecture means the use of certain
practice in building that was created through the
centuries from experience, local understanding of
space, and the appearance for the dwelling.
The ground floor houses, with one section or
with more sections was the most present for a very
long period, up to the beginning of the 20th century
These homes for living were made for settlements for
mountain location (Mariovo) and in the valley places
(Prilepsko Pole). These homes satisfied the needs
for a family, economic for building by local materials
(stone, earth, and wood), originating from the
vicinity, and without influence from the climate in the
form.
The ground floor with a first level, with open
and closed porch (čardak), were built in all the ethic
regions, and was most prominent in the 19th century,
and the first half of the 20th century. With open porch
(čardak) were built in the mountain region (Mariovo),
and the valley region (in the Prilep region). The
Turkish dwellings in the rural settlements had the
building characteristics which for the rural people
had the standard and model for superior building.
