Abstract

Many lipophilic enzymes that contain quinone moieties or multivalent cations of W, V, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe as redox active centers, exhibit electrochemical transformation in two successive steps. We provide the readers a full MATHCAD file with all relevant simulation parameters that can be used free for everyone to simulate this mechanism under conditions of square-wave voltammetry. The simulated voltammetric patterns are functions of kinetic parameters relevant to the first and the second electron transfer step, but also on the potential separation between both electrode steps. Moreover, in case of equal energy of transformation, both processes are portrayed in a single oxidation-reduction voltammetric pattern. This is a challenging situation that can be successfully resolved via coupling the second electron transfer step by follow-up chemical reaction.
