Abstract
The aim of this examination was to determine the genetic difference between Bulgarian, Macedonian and Turkish cotton varieties through the method of cluster analysis. The examinations were conducted during 2008 and 2009 in the Institute for cotton and durum wheat in Chirpan – Bulgaria and on the areas of Faculty of agriculture in Strumica of UGD – Stip. The cluster analyses, based on the different production and quality features of the fiber, confirm the difference between cotton varieties. The cotton varieties were grouped in two basic groups depending on the way and methods of growing.
Some cotton varieties were very similar and could be included in one growing program for faster effect in breeding. Macedonian cotton varieties and lines were very different from some Bulgarian varieties and their inclusion in one breeding program would be very useful. The outdoor conditions in the examination year affected the genetic similarity and difference, as a result of the genetic formulas that control the experiments. In Strumica the varieties were different in the yield and in the percent of the fiber, and also were weaker regarding the length of the fiber.
