Abstract
Hypertension is a global public health issue, affecting one billion people world
wide. Uncontrolled high
blood pressure can cause serious complications, such as stroke and coronary artery disease. The critical step of
treatment of hypertension is lifestyle changes
.
However, if non
-
drug treatment is ineffective, the choice of drug
treat
ment is determined by its safety and efficacy. A short survey prior to the beginning of this paper pointed to the
fact that hypertension is the most common diagnosis in the emergency medical service in Delchevo and because it is
the cause of more serious c
omplications, we decided to analyze the way of treatment of hypertension and compare it
with the recommendations of the relevant world guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension. The
purpose of this paper is to evaluate the procedures used
in the emergency medical service in Delchevo for the
treatment and management of hypertension in a period of one year (in our case, last year
-
2017) and compare them
with the recommendations of the world organizations that are engaged in research on hyper
tension and improving
the quality of patients with hypertension, as well as reducing the rate of hypertension and the occurrence of
complications
-
cardiovascular diseases. In order to achieve the goals of this paper, we analyzed the data on recorded
hyper
tensive cases from the medical diaries for medical records in the Emergency Service
-
Delcevo and we
compared them to guide
-
lines for hypertensive emergencies, the reports of the Joint National Committee on
prevention, detection, evaluation and treatment o
f hypertension, guidelines for treatment of hypertension from
evidence
-
based medicine, given by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Macedonia and more other European
and world guides. The obtained results show the application of somehow different tre
atment from the usual
recommended treatment for the treatment of hypertension, but it is a therapy that gives the desired effects, has not
shown serious side effects and is applied as such, for many years now. The treatment is standardized and approved
by
the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Macedonia.
