Abstract
The subject of this article is the Bitola plate, but not as a new attempt for reconstruction of the strongly damaged text, but as an analysis of the disputable moments and of some of its scarcely searched aspects. Among the key topic here would be the dating, the original size, the titles of the rulers, the specic way of invoking the saints’ help, the topic of authenticity, the notion Bulgarians as an ethnicity or etatism etc. Besides, an attempt is made to offer at least a hypothetic interpretation of its contents which would further help explain a great number of original features of the inscription.
