Abstract
The first methods for reliability were more experiential than scientific. Formal methods for predicting
reliability were developed in the 1940s. The 1960s introduced tree of faults method and FMEA. Safety
regulations were first deterministic in nature, then probabilistic. In 1975 the report of studies for the
risk assessment in nuclear plants new methods were developed as tree of events, for evaluation of
accident scenarios. Markov analysis was rarely used for modeling in safety engineering. Modern
standards and regulations revive the use from security perspective. These methods get more attention
because of the available software tools that make the complexity of the calculation easier.
