Abstract
Multiresolution method of Harold Stone (1999) for calculation of the progressive wavelet correlation using Fourier methods in the wavelet transformation domain is applied for searching and retrieving images from a collection of images in JPEG format. The process of searching is based on the factorization of the DCT matrix as a product of four matrices. Normalized correlation coefficients are used as a measure of the differences between the two images. Experimental section, which includes testing of hundreds of images, refer to: verifying whether a given object is in an image, determining the location of the object in the image, and finding and extracting a given image from a library of images.
