Abstract
Advanced technology allows looking at words in their real environment, i.e. in large computerized data-bases of English language. This paper gives an overview of what exactly the British National Corpus (BNC) is, looking as its structures and drawing examples. This corpus is a collection of over 100 million words of contemporary written and spoken texts.
