Abstract
Teaching the moral values is very important in the forming of the pupils’ moral identity. This teaching happens mainly through the school subject Macedonian language. We investigated the texts in which moral values are present, from the fifth up to eighth grade in elementary schools. We investigated all fourteen school text-books of Macedonian language that are officialy recognized by the Ministry of education and science of Republic of Macedonia. We discovered that there is magnificiant amount of texts in all of them, dedicated to the moral values for the pupils from fifth to eighth grade in elementary school.
We concluded that these texts were written in different literary forms (poetry, prose, drama, autobiographical segments and so). Also, except Macedonian, foreign authors are present as well. We also concluded that the most important moral values are present in these texts – most of them positive, but negative moral values are present as well, in order to teach the pupils how they shouldn’t behave. Also, we concluded that in some texts extra explanations from the teachers may be required in order for the children to better understand the particular moral value present in the text. Also we concluded that quantity of the texts with the messages dedicated to the moral values in not important, but rather quality is more important in these texts.
Finaly, we made an inquiry with a number of teachers of the Macedonian language asking them questions regarding the texts with moral values in the school text-books, and we are presenting their opinion here.
Final conclusion is that in the text-books for Macedonian language in the nine years long primary education, there are enough texts in which moral values are present and they (with help from the teachers) could have an importaint role in creating the high moral identity of the pupils.
