Abstract

Cyclone® Plus Storage Phosphor System is a device which performs highly efficient autoradiography and measure the radioactivity in samples like tissue sections, electrophoresis gels, and thin layer chromatography samples. It is comprised of a laser scanning device, the powerful image analysis software and a variety of high performance storage phosphor screens.
The storage phosphor screen is a thin flexible material with a thin layer of BaFBr:Eu2+ phosphor crystals on one side. The phosphor crystals absorb the energy emitted by the radioactivity in the sample and later re-emit that energy as blue light. With exposure of phosphor screens with radioactive samples it form and saved an image of radioactivity. The stored energy is positioned on the screen according to the original location of the radioactivity in the samples. The intensity of the light from the stored energy is proportional to the amount of radioactivity in the sample. To obtain an image with high quality the exposure of phosphor screens with radioactive samples it performed in special exposure cassette. This exposure cassette is a light tight frame that hold the sample and phosphor screen tightly together during the exposure process. The next step is scanning image to investigate the distribution of activity in sample and to measure the quantity of radioactivity in selected areas. To scan the screen, it is wrapped around a carousel drum with the phosphor layer on the outside. When it places the drum into the scanner, it is scanned by linearly moving the reader head down the rotating drum. The entire screen can be scanned in a few minutes, resulting in an image of the location and intensity of the radioactivity in the sample. Once scanned an image can be analyzed and stored for future reference. The powerful software gives many options for analyzing and reporting on the images. Phosphor screen can be re-using again and again, simply by erasing them just prior to each use. The screen is erased by exposing it to an intense source of white light or in special parts called screen eraser who can buy as accessories along with Cyclone® Plus Storage Phosphor System.
Cyclone® Plus Storage Phosphor System is a device that is using in radiopharmaceutical laboratories and provides to measure the radioactivity in the samples who is labeled with commonly used radioisotopes 3H, 125I, 14C, 35S, 33P, 32P, 18F и 99mTc and to obtain and analyzed an images with high quality and resolution.
