Abstract

The ACE²-EU Values Brochure provides a practical and methodological framework for integrating the fundamental values of the European Union into the everyday activities, institutional practices, and governance structures of the ACE²-EU European University Alliance. Developed to bridge the gap between declared principles and their practical implementation, the brochure addresses eight core dimensions: democracy, human dignity, freedom, equality, the rule of law, human rights, peace, and solidarity.

The publication translates these values into concrete pedagogical approaches, mobility practices, institutional governance mechanisms, and collaborative activities, supported by guiding questions and measurable indicators of implementation. Particular emphasis is placed on meaningful participation, equal opportunities, academic freedom, transparency, accountability, intercultural dialogue, and the protection of fundamental rights.

Structured around the continuous improvement cycle of planning, implementation, reflection, and improvement, the brochure offers universities a common methodology for embedding European values throughout their educational and institutional activities. Its practical Values Checklist further supports the assessment of whether these principles are effectively reflected in the design and delivery of Alliance initiatives.

Ultimately, the brochure highlights the transformative potential of European values in higher education, demonstrating how their systematic implementation can contribute to institutional change, strengthen cooperation among partner universities, and foster a shared, inclusive, democratic, and values-driven European university culture.
