Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to expose that the globalization of higher education converted the university classrooms into linguistically and culturally varied settings where students bring distinct communicative norms, expectations, and pragmatic conventions. While linguistic competence remains essential, successful academic interaction depends on intercultural pragmatic competence. The presentation will further discuss how intercultural pragmatics contributes to the transformation of academic communication in multicultural classrooms by fostering mutual understanding, avoiding stereotypes, reducing pragmatic misunderstandings and promoting inclusive learning environments.
Keywords: Intercultural pragmatics, communication, intercultural competence, higher education, pragmatic awareness.
