Abstract

Fashion can be understood as a mechanism of self-expression through which individuals articulate their values, identity orientations, and sense of individuality. At the same time, it functions as a means of social signaling, enabling the communication of social belonging, cultural heritage, and political views. Empirical research (practice-based research) indicates that clothing choices influence cognitive and behavioral processes, including self-confidence, perceived competence, and decision-making. This suggests that fashion has the transformative potential to shape subjective psychological experience. Fashion should therefore be viewed not merely as a visual or material practice, but as a complex psychosocial phenomenon that shapes individual behavior, self-presentation, and social interaction. It represents an important tool for self-identification and social communication, with a significant impact on psychological well-being and personal development. Fashion can be understood as a complex system of communication that extends far beyond the material dimension of clothing. It functions as a form of personal and social expression through which individuals construct and communicate their identities, strengthen their self-confidence, and position themselves within a social context. Practices such as color analysis, which enable the identification of shades that correspond with an individual’s physical characteristics, can significantly influence emotional well-being and psychological comfort. Furthermore, dressing in accordance with one’s body shape can contribute to a more authentic sense of self and the development of a more coherent and positive body image. The development of a personal style also represents an important mechanism for shaping identity and maintaining emotional stability throughout different stages of the life cycle. Asking whether clothing can modify the way individuals feel, behave, and communicate with others creates an opportunity to explore the social and psychological dimensions of fashion. This suggests that a conscious approach to clothing selection can foster creative potential, enhance self-confidence, and contribute to a richer social experience. Although fashion is often treated as a trivial or superficial domain, contemporary research demonstrates that its effects are deeply rooted in psychological processes. Clothing functions as a symbolic medium through which individuals communicate their values, status, and personal aspirations. It can simultaneously serve as a tool for social adaptation and resistance, as well as a mechanism for self-protection and self-affirmation. Research in the field of fashion psychology highlights the interaction between clothing, emotions, cognitive processes, and behavior, emphasizing that fashion represents a form of self-presentation imbued with intention and meaning. The relationship between psychology and fashion represents a complex interplay of personal, social, and cultural factors
