Abstract

A unified theoretical model of cyclic voltammetry is presented to investigate the influence of regenerative reaction kinetics on sequential electron-transfer processes coupled with preceding, intermediate, and follow-up homogeneous chemical reactions. Particular attention is devoted to the interplay between the kinetics of the regenerative step, the rate constants of the preceding and follow-up chemical reactions, and the equilibrium constant of the intermediate chemical transformation. By systematically varying these parameters, the model explores their combined effects on the shape, position, intensity, and reversibility of cyclic voltammetric responses. The analysis aims to identify characteristic voltammetric signatures of regenerative pathways and establish conditions under which chemical equilibria and reaction kinetics enhance, suppress, or alter the catalytic current response. The proposed framework provides a systematic approach for distinguishing complex multistep electrochemical mechanisms and offers mechanistic insights into coupled electron-transfer and homogeneous catalytic reactions relevant to redox-active drugs, enzymatic systems, and electrocatalytic processes.
