Abstract

Are teachers up to date with Gen Z expressions?

The degree to which teachers are conversant with Gen Z phrases varies greatly. Teachers are more likely to keep up with changing lingo if they frequently use social media sites like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. However, a lot of teachers fall behind because of how quickly language trends change, how pupils use expressions in different contexts and in subtle ways, and the necessity of maintaining professionalism in the classroom. Because of this, the majority of teachers continue to be somewhat out of step with the most recent linguistic changes, which reflects the inherent generational divide in language use, even though some are able to stay up.
