Abstract

The incidence of vascular pathologydue to repetitive blunt force trauma of the axillarypit by using axillarycrutches has beendescribed inthe medical literature. We report a caseofaxillary arteryaneurysm with brachial, radial and ulnar arteryembolization in a 53-year-old man with a severecaseofspasticquadriparesissubsequenttochildhoodpoliomyelitis.Thepatientpresented with aggravating pain in the past 2 weeks, due to subacute right arm ischemia. We performed bypass grafting fromthe axillary to brachial artery with exclusion of the aneurysm followed by distal thrombectomy. An axillary artery aneurysm is rare, but potentially lethal for the upper extremity; therefore, surgical treatment must be performed prior to the development of permanent sequalae.
