Abstract
Talking about cultural diversity or cultural differences within a society, as commonly used terms for registration of their existence, we use the terms cultural pluralism or multicultural and multiculturalism. Apparently these terms denote a set of cultures, but they differ in their role and significance. Talking about the general cultural differences registered in a modern societies, the scientists careful distinguish between concepts, cultural pluralism and multiculturalism. While cultural pluralism recognizes the existence of different cultures within the same social reality, while looking to set a rigid boundary between public and private spheres, multiculturalism differs from cultural pluralism, because it is based on the requirements for the recognition of cultural diversity and the promotion of equal dignity of distinctive cultural identities, that affirm the equal value of different cultures.
This raises the question: what is better to promote, when we intend to favor the formation and affirmation of the subject in a society, in which it is clear that there are minorities? Is it the recognition of cultural and social particularities or primacy of universal values, individuals, conceptualized beyond what established the identity of the subject?
Macedonian society is an authentic example of a multicultural society. But, although the new political system (set up by Macedonia's independence in 1991), responded to what Charles Taylor calls a Policy of recognizing the equal value of cultures, in a practice, in certain spheres of society, it was conducted monoethnic policy. This kind of policy caused dissatisfaction among some minority ethnic groups and has led to the adoption of political response for consolidation of multiculturalism.
