Abstract
Introduction: This thesis investigates the viability of mini-dental implants (MDls) as a means of retaining removable partial dentures (RPDs) in Kennedy Class I and Class II patients with narrow alveolar ridges (::;4.5mm)
lacking posterior teeth.
Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the ability of MDls to maintain RPDsin these patients.
Materials and methods: Within this study, 84 Kennedy class I patients, with a mean age of 66.0±7.6 years, were included, where 57 received mandibular and 27 maxillary MDls. All patients received new RPDs.
Results: The results showed a success rate of 95.3% after the first year and 93.4% after the second year. Significantly increased marginal bone loss with age was also observed. Kennedy class II patients also demonstrated similar rates of MBI without loss on MDls.
Conclusion: This study is of great importance in clinical practice, as it confirms the success of MDI-RPD in patients with narrow aveolar ridges, highlighting the importance of an individual approach in implantology. We are delighted with the results and their potential to improve the quality of life of patients in the field of dentistry.
Keywords: mini-implants, removable partial denture, modified plaque index, modified bleeding index, oral quality of life.
