Abstract
Youth employment and the promotion of decent work are critical components of sustainable development in North Macedonia. The presentation explores the multifaceted challenges and opportunities related to youth employment, emphasizing the alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Key barriers to youth employment in North Macedonia include mismatches between educational outcomes and labor market demands, limited access to quality jobs, and a high prevalence of informal employment.
The analysis highlights policy interventions that focus on fostering entrepreneurship, enhancing vocational and technical education, and strengthening public-private partnerships. Additionally, the presentation underscores the importance of integrating digital skills training and green economy initiatives to address emerging labor market trends. Special attention is given to the role of labor law reforms, social protection mechanisms, and active labor market policies in creating an enabling environment for youth employment and decent work.
By leveraging evidence-based policy measures and international best practices, North Macedonia can improve youth employability, reduce unemployment rates, and contribute to sustainable economic growth. The findings underscore the need for a collaborative approach involving government, civil society, academia, and the private sector to ensure that young people are equipped with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in a dynamic labor market.
