Abstract

Youth tourism is a form of tourism in which young people participate. It is a type of tourism with categories of tourists who, due to their age, have special and different preferences and needs from other age groups, from which arise appropriate activities and capacities that tourism offers for them. In youth tourism, there are specialized tourist intermediaries (tour operators and travel agencies), and organizations (youth and similar associations) that deal only with the organization of youth tourism. Youth tourism refers to all independent travel for periods of less than one year by young people who are motivated, in part or in whole, by the desire to learn about other cultures, create life experiences or take part in formal or informal learning opportunities outside the usual place of residence. Motivated by various motives (fun, getting to know new cultures, education, adventure, etc.), young people go on trips to expand their horizons and achieve their goals, all in order to satisfy their needs and desires. For the purposes of this paper, a methodology was used and appropriate and relevant literature in the field of youth tourism was analyzed. The aim of the paper is to cover the basic aspects of youth tourism by defining this type of tourism and analyzing the demand for youth tourism. Special reference is made to educational tourism, which appears due to the growing trend of acquiring new knowledge, but also transferring knowledge to others, as well as improving abilities and competencies outside the classroom. In educational tourism, the focus is on getting to know the culture, that is, getting to know new knowledge, as well as the work and application of the knowledge acquired in the classroom. Accordingly, educational tourism encompasses tourism activities undertaken during travel where learning or education is the primary or secondary motive for tourists.
