Abstract

This article offers an insight into the female mentality, specifically the mentality of the Iron Sister from
the short story of the same name by the Turkish writer Nemika Tugјu. First, through a general analysis of the
concept and the constituent components of mentality, and then through observation of the actions of the head nurse,
we will find out what is under the armor of the so-called Iron Sister. Who are the architects of her iron armor that
she will wear her entire life until it constricts and wears her to the limit? To whom is she consistent? Why does she
suppress his feelings? These are questions, through the answers of which we will find out that the Iron Sister is
actually only apparently iron. The conscience, the excessive expectations from herself, to be sinless and faithful to
the teacher Melahat, will one day make a big yellow stain that will be fatal for her life. Finally, all the feelings that
she has been suppressing for years will overwhelm her and she will melt into an ordinary person who has a hard
time carrying her burden. A burden that she can no longer bear and surrenders to the decision to put an end to these
feelings that torment her to the point of unbearableness.
Keywords: woman, female mentality, iron sister, yellow stain.
